Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
In this case, I should say “Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Avoid” Yes Alex Smith was one of the NFL’s best success stories leading his team a to a big play off win against the mighty Saints but let’s not get carried away. For fantasy football purposes, this is a guy I am not touching. He will have a game or two up his sleeve but I would highly recommend leaving Alex Smith on the waiver wire where he belongs.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Last season Frank Gore finished 16 games healthy for the first time since 2006. The main reason for this was his decreased work load. Factor in the addition of Brandon Jacobs and the speedster LaMichael James not to mention the fact that Kendall Hunter is still hanging around and you have a number two fantasy running back at best. I could see Frank Gore’s number of touches dropping down even further in 2012making him a risky play. I have no problem drafting him, just make sure it is a good value. If you intend to handcuff Gore you definitely want to tab Kendall Hunter. Let the other guys rush to the wire for the more exciting LaMichael James, I wan the guy who will inherit the bulk of the work, not third down back duty.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
If I am drafting any of these guys, it would have to be Michael Crabtree. He has shown good chemistry with Alex Smith and seems to have the weak quarterback’s trust. I would not expect big numbers but I can see Michael Crabtree being a reasonable number 3 fantasy wide receiver. Mario Manningham adds another reliable set of hands to the game and could be used as a nice possession receiver. I for one do not trust him this season outside of deep PPR leagues. The addition of Randy Moss is exciting on paper but the truth of the matter is that Randy Moss is a one trick pony at this point in his career. Moss can take anyone deep, I just doubt Alex Smith can deliver the football that far down field.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Vernon Davis remains amongst fantasy football's top tight ends. Don’t expect number like Gronkowski or Graham but 900 yards and 10 touchdowns should be attainable. As we all know a weak quarterback will lean on their tight end. Alex Smith is one of the weakest and Vernon Davis is among the strongest, draft with confidence.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams -
This is an elite defensive unit and will probably come off the board earlier than I would like. I always recommend waiting on a defense but if you must reach, reach for the 49ers’defense. They are loaded up with super studs like Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman. Additionally Justin Smith is amongst the leagues best defensive linemen.

Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
David Akers was far and away fantasy football’s best kicker in 2011 and I see no reason he won’t repeat that success. The offense is historically terrible in the red zone providing Akers ample opportunity to score beyond the usual extra points. Again, I never recommend reaching for a kicker but Akers might be worth a small reach.

Fantasy Football Quarterback to Own –
Amazing how fantasy outlooks can change. Less and 2 years ago, fantasy “experts” were sure Kevin Kolb was the real deal and Eagles fans were sure he was the one to lead them to the promised land. Until about a week ago there was still hope he could lead the Cardinals to the playoffs; then the rug was pulled out from underneath him and John Skelton was named the opening day starter. While Kolb was given a rather large contract, Skelton went 5-2 as a starter and his 2012 pre-season was enough to push him over the edge. He will be throwing to one of the best wide outs in the NFL, which should make him serviceable as a fantasy backup, or plug and play quarterback. If there is better available, just leave him on the waivers. Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as the Cards seem more and more willing to toss the ball around a bit.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own –
2 knee surgeries are sure to slow down NFL running backs; not Beanie Wells though. He had a career year in 2011 but still gets no love from fantasy drafters. I continue to head grunts and moans from those “forced” to draft him in my live drafts. For a guy that carried the ball for over 1000 yards and double-digit touchdowns in only 14 games, you would think owners would flock to him in early rounds. This was on the case, however. Wells is going in the 10th round of fantasy drafts as a RB3 in many. If you can get him as your RB3, start preparing for your fantasy playoffs because you will be there. Ignore those so-called experts and draft him with confidence. Ryan Williams won’t take his carries, and with a 16 game injury free season he should make many owners very proud.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own –
There is one wide receiver to own and one wide receiver to watch. Larry Fitzgerald is still one of the elite fantasy receivers to own, even with his “veteran” status. Fitz hasn’t missed a game since 2007 and I don’t see that happening this season. Be ready for his usual 1200+ yards and 8+ touchdowns. Draft him as your top fantasy wide receiver and enjoy the show. Michael Floyd could be a major contributor for this offense in his rookie season. He was drafted 13th overall for a reason. Arizona hasn’t had a true number 2 receivers since Anquan Boldin left, and Floyd just might be the answer to the prayers of the Cardinal faithful. Draft him as a late rounder and see if he pans out. He will have to beat out up-and-comers like Andre Roberts and Early Doucet in order to start his race to fantasy relevancy. This receiving group is one to keep an eye on as they have many young pass-catchers and a quarterback who likes to throw it around. Draft Fitz and keep an eye on the others. The talent is there.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own –
Todd Heap used to be good and Arizona drafted a talented tight end in Rob Housler. This is a situation to avoid. Looks elsewhere for your fantasy tight ends.

Fantasy Football Defense/Special Teams Preseason Analysis –
If there is such thing as a “sleeper” team defense, the Arizona Cardinals could be just that. They are loaded with youngsters and Patrick Peterson is one of the most exciting playmakers in the league. They have plenty of talent here. Daryl Washington and Paris Lenon should anchor the line backing group while Calais Campbell will be a great run-stopper who is able to get to the quarterback 8-10 times this year. This group could be a great match-up play and as the season progresses, I see this defense becoming a fantasy mainstay.

Fantasy Football Kickers to Own –
Jay Feely is getting old, and his numbers have diminished each season. In his past 3 seasons, his FGM have gone from 34 to 24 to 19 and his percentage made has dropped from 85% to 79% over that time. The team will be shopping for a kicker in the near future, so stay away from here and draft elsewhere.

Individual Defensive Players Expert

Individual defensive players are possibly the most important element to having a well-rounded  fantasy football team, as most people look to the big names to carry their team.  Robert comes from a background in sports, where he played D3 college basketball at Millsaps College. Fantasy Football Quarterback to Own -
Ben Roethlisberger has been an excellent field general for the Steelers since joining the team in 2004, but this does not
always equate into great fantasy success. Generally a run heavy offense in Pittsburgh they will be forced into passing the ball early and often in 2012 with the lack of an established running back due to injuries.  With Mike Wallace ending his holdout and the emergence of other Steelers receivers such as Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders, Big Ben should start putting up good numbers right out of the gate in this revamped offense.  I see Roethlisberger as a solid #1 fantasy quarterback option and Iwould look to draft him around the 9th round of your fantasy draft.

Fantasy Football Running Back to own –
The Steelers backfield remains relatively unclear to begin the 2012 season.   Rashard Mendenhall was taken off of the PUP (physically unable to perform) list, but still should not see any action for the first few weeks of the season due to the severity of last year’s ACL Injury.  Isaac Redman, who would have been the natural next in line, has been suffering from a lingering groin issue that has limited his time during the preseason. Jonathan Dwyer was lucky enough to come out of the 2011 preseasonunscathed and should see a significant number of touches to start out the season and I believe that he will have the largest fantasy impact early in 2012.  With that being said I still view Mendenhall as the best overall option once he is back at full
speed.  Don’t reach for any of these guys as it should be a muddy situation until later in the year.

Fantasy Football Wide Receiver to own –
Mike Wallace has finally ended his offseason holdout and is coming into camp having to learn an entirely new offense in just over a week. Granted he did receive the playbook a month or so back, but that is nothing like getting it done on the field. By mid season Wallace should be putting up his usual stat line, but temper your expectations early in the season as the lockout will keep him out of his normal #1 fantasy wide receiver spot.  In my eyes Antonio Brown takes over the spot of #1 fantasy wide receiver in Pittsburgh. While he does not have the blazing speed of Wallace his ability to gain yards after the catch is second to none. Look for him to flourish early and be consistent throughout the season.  If you can get your hands on Antonio Brown in the 5th or 6th round of you will be very happy with the return on your investment.

Fantasy Football Tight End to own –
While Heath Miller has not put up more touchdowns than two since 2009 he is still a solid weekly contributor in fantasy especially in points per reception (PPR) formats. With the Steelers looking to move the ball through the air early in the season expect Miller to be heavily involved.  While he will never be the #1 fantasy tight end he should provide a solid security blanket for your starting tight end or as a bye week fill in. Look to draft Miller in the back end of your draft in 2012. 
 
Fantasy Football Place Kicker to own –
Shaun Suisham has been an erratic kicker over his last four seasons in the NFL. He can be rock solid and in some instances downright awful. While the Steelers should have no issues moving the ball and giving Suisham opportunities to put up numbers, I would avoid him in any format unless it is for a bye week fill in.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams –
The Steelers once again bring to the table one of the most dominant defensive groups in the NFL.  As a unit they can hit the quarterback consistently, defend passes, and score on any given play.  You should not be hesitant to have them as your starting defense in a team scoring format. If you are in an individual defensive position (IDP) league the Steelers offer plenty of choices to help your team. While Lawrence Timmons (Linebacker) probably provides you with the most consistent scoring each week other players such as James Harrison (Linebacker), LaMarr Woodley (Linebacker), Troy Polamalu (Defensive Back), and Ryan Clark (Defensive Back) will also be solid additions to your fantasy team.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Mark Sanchez was quietly a top ten fantasy football quarterback at the close of 2011. While he was never spectacular he always seemed to get the job done for fantasy purposes posting almost 3,500 yards passing and 26 touchdowns. Mark Sanchez even ran in 6 scores boosting his value into the top ten overall fantasy passers last season. I would not expect similar success in 2012. Tim Tebow has arrived to most likely run the Jet’s red zone offense and will surely sap any value Mark Sanchez had. At this juncture, both players should be considered waiver wire fodder as they will surely cannibalize each others value. If one should go down with an injury the other will be elevated to number 2 quarterback status.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Like with the quarterback position, the addition of Tim Tebow will be a drain on the Jet’s running backs in 2012. In standard leagues, Shonne Green is the only one worth owning at this point. He was a solid number 3 running back in 2011 when it was all said and done, but do keep in mind that 3 of his 6 total rushing scores came in a single game last season. This is a running back I am avoiding in all but the deepest of leagues. As long as Tebow is healthy, none of Green’s backups have any significant value.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Santonio Holmes is back again to provide an under-used but familiar target for this Jets passing attack. Santonio Holmes will surely score 6 or 7 touchdowns amassing maybe 800 yards giving him flex value or value as a number 3 fantasy wide receiver at best. There is talent beyond Santonio Holmes with the perennial preseason superstar star, Chaz Schilens but I doubt the Jet’s passing game can sustain more than one wide receiver for fantasy football purposes. Those in Dynasty league might take a look into the rookie Stephen Hill. He is 6’4” weighs in at 215 and runs a sub 4.4 forty yard dash.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Dustin Keller is a solid fantasy tight end but really nothing to get excited about. I would not feel comfortable starting him on a week to week basis but he certainly works well in bye week relief or spot duty. Expect about 800 yards and 5-7 touchdowns once again in 2012. Tim Tebow will sap some of Keller’s fantasy value but lets not forget, Keller is by far Mark Sanchez’s favorite target in this Jets offense.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams -
The Jets defense as a whole has fallen from the elite ranks but they should still be solid. They have some excellent talent in Darrell Revis, David Harris and Sione Pouha all of which can be had on the cheap in your IDP fantasy drafts. My concern for this unit is actually coming from the other side of the ball. I get the feeling the Jets offense has a little bit of a down arrow coming into 2012 which could mean this defensive unit could spend a lot of time on the field. This bodes well for IDP players but not those starting the defense as a unit in standard leagues. Whatever the format this defense still provides great value.


Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
Unless you happen to play in a 32 team fantasy football league, steer clear of Nick Folk! Its not that he is a terrible kicker (he is not particularly skilled either) it is more of a matter of his environment. With a potentially anemic offense the scoring potential could be very low this upcoming season. Look else where in your draft. If you decide you need Nick Folk later on, he will be sitting right there on the waiver wire where he belongs.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Ryan Tannehill has “earned” the starting job in Miami going into 2012. Although the Dolphins drafter Ryan Tannehill to be their starter but I cannot recommend drafting him for fantasy purposes in any standard formats. If you are in the deepest of dynasty leagues, maybe draft him. I personally would not touch him until he shows us something. There is a decent chance Matt Moore takes the reigns at some point this season. He too should only be owned in the deepest of leagues, preferably in two quarterback leagues. Beyond that, there is not much fantasy value with these two quarterbacks.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Reggie Bush finally put together a solid season last year rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 6 touchdowns. He added 43 receptions and just under 300 yards receiving as well as another touchdown. Reggie Bush will get the start heading into 2012 but do not be surprised if he loses his job somewhere down the line. I see this 2012 Miami Dolphins team as a complete rebuild meaning they will eventually need to see what they have in 2nd year man Daniel Thomas and 4th round rookie Lamar Miller. If you are looking for a late round flyer its Lamar Miller. He has sub 4.5 speed and should easily out perform the tip - toeing Daniel Thomas.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
When Davone Bess is your number one wide receiver your team is in trouble. That is no knock on Bess but for standard fantasy leagues he is a number 3 fantasy wide out at best. Bess has added value in PPR leagues but even then he would considered a low end number 2 fantasy football wide receiver. Beyond Davone Bess there is not much else to be had. One could take a late round flyer on Brian Hartline but as of this writing he is not a start-able fantasy wide receiver. Factor in a rookie quarterback and you have a fantasy football wasteland.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Anthony Fasano could factor into the passing game greatly in 2012. One thing we know about young signal callers is that they lean on their tight ends early and often. Considering the wide receiving corps in place there is a good chance Anthony Fasano could wind up being Miami’s number one receiving option in 2012. I am not saying you should draft him as your starting fantasy tight end but there is sleeper potential here.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams -
After this unit got rocked in week one last season (New England hung over 500 yards on them) they proceeded to have a “defensive hangover” and lost their next 7 contests. In the latter part of the season this Dolphins defensive unit started to put it together but until they do it for a full season as a whole, they are not star-table. For IDP purposes Hybrid Defensive end / linebacker Cameron Wake should one again provide high sack numbers. At middle linebacker, Karlos Dansby should feel more at home in the newly installed 4-3 defensive and should provide roughly 100 tackles. Keep Dansby on your radar as you will not need to reach for him in 2012 drafts.

Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
There is a decent chance Dan Carpenter will be Miami’s leading offensive scorer both in real life and for fantasy football purposes. If the team manages to cross the 50 yards line, I doubt they will get into the red zone a ton giving Carpenter ample opportunity for longer filed goals. All hypothetical and only time will tell. Keep Carpenter on your fantasy football radar, but not on your roster just yet.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Ryan Fitzpatrick started out red hot last season passing for 12 touchdowns in his first 6 games. After that he got a nice contract extension as a reward for his strong play, it all went south. From week 7 onward Ryan Fitzpatrick posted another 12 touchdowns but he added 17 interceptions. I view Ryan Fitzpatrick as a number 2 fantasy quarterback with little upside. He should get the job done most weeks but do not expect any spectacular numbers.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Fred Jackson was an absolute beast in 2011 posting nearly 1,000 yards rushing and over 400 yards receiving in only 10 games. Had Fred Jackson played the entire season he would have easily finished as a top 5 running back and would be considered top 5 coming into 2012. Unfortunately, Fred Jackson broke his fibula in week 11 opening the door for C.J. Spiller who did not disappoint. C.J. Spiller Finished the season with over 500 yards rushing adding another 269 yards receiving while scoring a total of 6 touchdowns. This performance has earned C.J. Spiller more touches in 2012 the question is how many? I envision a 70-30 split in Fred Jackson’s favor to start the season but if either running backs sustains a significant injury the other rusher will automatically become a top ten fantasy football running back.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Steve Johnson is about the only reliable option on the Bills’ offense coming into 2012. Steve Johnson has posted back to back 1,000 yard campaigns and I don’t see why he can’t make it three in a row. Fitzpatrick is unspectacular but certainly competent enough to feed one mouth in this offense and that is without a doubt Steve Johnson. I view Johnson as a moderate number 2 fantasy football wide receiver or a high end number 3 receiver. Beyond Steve Johnson you will find a mish-mash of inexperienced wide receivers. If Ryan Fitzpatrick has the breakout year some have predicted one of these guys should benefit, I would say David Nelson stands the best chance. He has prototypical size and speed and did receive 98 targets last season. I will not be drafting him but he will certainly be on my radar in 2012.

Fantasy Football Tight End to Own -
If you have watched and of the Buffalo Bills game tape from 2011 you undoubtedly saw a giant man catching a touchdown or two - that was Scott Chandler. The 6’7” 260 pound tight end caught 6 touchdowns last season and is an imposing red zone target. He should be drafted as a backup in deeper leagues but be warned; if he doesn’t score a touchdown he will not score more than 5-6 fantasy points on a given week.

Fantasy Football Defense/Special Teams -
As a unit the Bills defense should not be touched. They realized their weakness was the pass rush and went out and nabbed Mario Williams in the off season. Williams will once again be among the top defensive ends in all IDP formats in 2012. The lack of pass rush undoubtedly led to more work for the Bills’ secondary making both Jarius Byrd and George Wilson top defensive backs in 2011. Both Safeties racked up tackles on the weekly basis and both can be had at bargain prices in 2012. As far as the linebackers go, Nick Barnett should provide somewhere around 100 tackles with a sack or two to sweeten his value. All in all they should not be deployed as a unit but for IDP purposes we have a small gold mine.

Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
Injuries aside Ryan Lindell is a decent kicker - just not a decent fantasy football kicker. Who knows, maybe the Bills’ offense comes out firing on all cylinders. If that happens you will find Lindell right where he belongs - on the waiver wire.

Fantasy Football Quarterback to Own - Joe Flacco had to open the 2011 without two of his favorite targets in Todd Heap and Derrick Mason yet he still managed to put up a consistent stat line just about every week. Working with mostly young, inexperienced wide receivers (with the exception of Anquan Boldin) Joe Flacco put together a solid yet unspectacular season. He should see a slight up-tick in his numbers this year after having the entire off season to develop chemistry with his receiving corps which should prove beneficial for all. Joe Flacco may never be the #1 fantasy quarterback that you want starting every week, but he could provide some decent backup or bye week numbers if the match up is right.

Fantasy Football Running Back to Own - If Arian Foster is the #1 fantasy running back for 2012 then Ray Rice should be #1 - B. Make no mistake that this Baltimore offense will literally run through Rice. He is a very versatile back that can be a big factor in both the running and passing attack. If your preference is Rice over Foster at the #1 spot you should take him and not worry about the consequences. He has little competition for touches out of the backfield in Baltimore and should provide a banner year for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Football Wide Receiver to Own - Torrey Smith had an inconsistent rookie season with Baltimore in 2011, but showed bright flashes of potential even without a full off season to learn the offense. This year Torrey Smith will benefit greatly from a full off season with Joe Flacco and the Baltimore offensive coordinators. I would look to add Torrey Smith as a #3 fantasy wide receiver with a very high upside if he can get things going early on in the season. Anquan Boldin will take away some of his targets every week, but his big play ability is second to none and that gives him a great chance to put up monster number any given week.

Fantasy Football Tight End to Own - Both Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta could be starting Tight Ends for any given team on Sunday. With that being said these two will be splitting duties every week and will in turn hurt their fantasy value. Unless there is an injury or a major change in chemistry between them and Flacco I would avoid both. They are best left for the waiver wire unless one of them goes down with an injury.

Fantasy Football Place Kicker to Own - Baltimore will be starting the 2012 season with Justin Tucker an un-drafted free agent out of Texas as the kicker. After many misses with Billy Cundiff last season, including a 32 yard filed goal that would have placed them in the Super Bowl, they have entrusted the rookie with the role of place kicker. He is in a good position to put up numbers as the Ravens will move the ball easily in 2012, but I would still look for other options until Tucker shows that he can consistently knock down big kicks every week.

Fantasy Football Defense/Special Teams - Every season Baltimore shows up with a top notch defense and this year shouldn’t be any different. Sure the loss of Suggs is big, but this group works so well as a unit they should be able to keep the ship straight in his absence. They get to the quarterback, prevent touchdowns, and get takeaways. They should be everything you are looking for in a team defense. If you are looking for some IDP value Ray Lewis is always a contributor and brings it every week, while Haloti Ngata (Defensive Line) along with Bernard Pollard (Defensive Back) and Ladarius Webb (Defensive Back) should also provide some solid return for your investment.

Fantasy Football Quarterback to Own –
Sam Bradford made some noise during his rookie NFL season but an injury riddled sophomore campaign slowed his maturation process. Bradford comes into the 2012 NFL season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and a few new weapons at his disposal. While he is surrounded by talented young pass catchers, Bradford’s drawback is the lack of a big play-big name receiver. He should be able to rack up yardage between the 20s (especially with an aging back), but the lack of a running game and a big play receiver will hinder his touchdown total and red zone performance. Still, Bradford had a plethora of 300 yard games in his shortened 2011 season and the additions around him should make him a serviceable number 2 fantasy quarterback capable of over 20 touchdowns and 3500 yards.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own –
Stephen Jackson is getting old. His last 3 seasons we have seen a drop in total yards in each consecutive year. Don’t get me wrong; he still holds his “superstar” status, but just barely. 2011 saw yet another 1100 yard season and low touchdown numbers. The Rams have also noticed his lower production and was quick to draft Isaiah Pead to combat Stephen Jackson’s steps towards 30 years of age. I expect Pead to take some of the burden from S-Stephen Jackson but he should only be owned as a handcuff, nothing more (unless you are in a fantasy football keeper league). Be prepared for another dip in production from Jackson, but he should still possess enough to gain 1000 yards again and be a decent number 1 and a very good number 2 fantasy football running back.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own –
This situation is nuts. Year after year the “experts” tell you to pick up Amendola, Gibson, Salas, Lloyd, Danario, Sims-Walker. It seems there is always a “Sleeper” waiting in the wings, yet they never seem to awaken. After 2011, Danny Amendola was well on his way to becoming of the top slot-receivers in the game but a horrible injury ended his 2012 season before it ever began. I expect him to lead the team in catches in 2012, but don’t go rushing to add him as this is yet another wait-and-see situation. Steve Smith (non-Carolina) should make the team and will make an interesting add to any fantasy roster. He has shown flashes in the past (2009, 1200 yards and 7 TDs), so adding him could be one of the sneakiest picks in this year’s fantasy draft. Other than smith and Amendola, stay far away from any St. Louis wide out until the roster is set.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own –
Lance Kendricks could be a solid contributor in this offense in 2012, but we were told the same thing in 2011. He is young with some very good hands and very good route running abilities, but the lack of offensive identity in St. Louis will once again have his owners wishing they drafted someone else. Stay away.

Fantasy Football Defense/Special Teams Preseason Analysis –
There is talent here, but the offense’ inability to control the clock will leave no chance for this unit to breath. There is a chance this defense can be own able, but only if the offense can move the ball and score some points. Look to own James Laurinaitis and Chris Long as your IDP performers and be sure to keep an eye on Robert Quinn.

Fantasy Football Kickers to Own –
St. Louis added rookie Greg Zuerlein to take over kicking duties. He has a very strong and accurate leg, but all the ability in the world will go for nothing if this offense is unable to get him in position to score some points. There are safer kickers out there.

Individual Defensive Players Expert

Individual defensive players are possibly the most important element to having a well-rounded  fantasy football team, as most people look to the big names to carry their team.  Robert comes from a background in sports, where he played D3 college basketball at Millsaps College. As an intense competitor he wants to share his knowledge to help you compete in this years fantasy football season.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Tom Brady is an elite fantasy football quarterback. He finishes among the top passers in the league year in and year out and should put forth another top ten fantasy effort in 2012. If you want Brady this season you will have to take him in the first round of your fantasy draft in all common formats. When you consider some of the running backs being offered in the latter part of the first round, one can see why the relative safety and consistency Tom Brady offers might be enticing. Expect Brady to Finish in the top three among all passers in 2012. For those in dynasty leagues, feel free to take a flyer on Ryan Mallet. I doubt he gets on the field this season but if you have the roster space, stash him away for when he eventually inherits Brady’s job or when the Patriots build him up and trade him off.

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
The only head coach in the NFL who frustrates fantasy football owners more than Mike Shanahan is Bill Belichick. To own a New England running back is to know no sense of security. Shane Vereen and Steven Ridley would be the top two to own, followed by their third down back Danny Woodhead. I would not advise counting on any of them week in and week out but feel free to draft one of them as a flyer. One of these guys should inherit Benjarvus Green-Ellis’ goal line touchdowns, the question is which one? If you happen to select the right guy you could have a top 15 fantasy football running back on your hands with a very low draft day price tag.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
Wes Welker has been among the top three players in targets 2 out of the past 3 years. Expect Brady to look to his favorite wide receiver early and often in 2012. Welker may miss out on the touchdown looks but he should still gain around 1,200 yards through the air. One of the biggest splashes this off season was Brandon Lloyd reuniting with Josh McDaniels in New England. Lloyd had his breakout season with McDaniels as his head coach in Denver back in 2010 and finished top 5 in targets with McDaniels as his offensive coordinator lat year in St. Louis. The bottom line is McDaniels loves Lloyd and will try to get him in position to score. Lloyd could be the real deep threat New England has lacked since Randy Moss’ departure. The Patriot’s deep threat in 2011 was Deion Branch. Branch is still hanging around this season along with Jabar Gafney. Both should cannibalize off one another making neither startable options in standard fantasy football leagues.

Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Own -
Rob Gronkowski was an absolute beast in 2011. He set the record for touchdowns by a tight end with 18 while gaining 1,327 yards through the air. There is no reason to think Gronkowski wont repeat his success in 2012, but what if he doesn’t? If you own Gronkowski this season you will likely have spent a top 20 draft pick on him meaning if he does not repeat last year’s success he could very well be a poor value. I’m not saying you shouldn’t draft Gronkowski this season, but with Tight end being so deep in 2012 fantasy football drafts, he may not be the best value. His counterpart Aaron Hernandez may very well prove to be one of the most frustrating selections at the tight end position in 2012. If he can maintain his high level of targets he could be a top 4 tight end (which is how he is being drafted in mock drafts thus far) I for one have a hard time selecting the team second fiddle at the position for my starting fantasy tight end. I could be wrong but I bet that improved receiving corps steals a lot of Aaron’s value in 2012. Considering how high you will have to take him if you want him, I do not think Hernandez will provide good value again in 2012. If Gronkowski goes down, Hernandez is an instant top 5 fantasy tight end. I think both will be very good, just not good values this upcoming season.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams -
As a team this defense is a mess. Belichick was starting wide receivers at times in the secondary and the front line was unable to generate any sort of consistent pass rush. For IDP purposes Pat Chung provides a ton of tackles and Jerod Mayo should still have some gas in the tank, the rest can be found on the waiver wire any given week.

Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
Stephen Gostkowski is probably fantasy football’s top place kicker this season. He is on a high octane offense providing plenty of scoring opportunities, and yes extra points add up rather quickly. Expect Gostkowski to be one of the first kickers to come off the board in your 2012 fantasy football draft.

Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Own -
Eli Manning has quietly been an outstanding fantasy football value over the past few years. After his latest campaign in 2011 the young passer will no longer be flying under the radar. When you pass for nearly 5,000 yards and 29 touchdowns people will start to notice. We would like to see Eli Manning have that huge breakout touchdown season a la Aaron Rodgers and 2012 could be the year. Manning is surrounded by dynamic play-makers and clearly has the green light to air it out week after week. Manning has been prone to a few lackluster outings (usually 4-5 per season) but his upside and value far outweigh his shortcomings and lapses from grace. The best part about Eli is his fantasy draft day value. The top fantasy quarterback tier this year would consist of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford and in my opinion Eli Manning (Michael Vick just misses due to his injury prone tag) If you want one of the first 5 names you will have to spend a first or second round draft pick. Eli can be had in the 4th or 5th round - big difference!

Fantasy Football Running Backs to Own -
Ahmad Bradshaw is the starting running back coming into 2012. That said, I would not be surprised if the rookie David Wilson inherits the gig for one reason or another by the close of the 2012 season. There is a reason the Giants brass went and drafted a guy who very much resembles Bradshaw. Ahmad’s injury woes may fully take hold this season giving Wilson the opportunity to steal the starting gig. It is not a matter of if but rather when Bradshaw gets hurt. Do not get me wrong, when Bradshaw plays he can be great. This is a guy who scored 11 touchdowns last season while missing 4 games. Even still, I do not intend to own Bradshaw in any leagues this year simply because I feel he is a lock to miss time with an injury. If he must be owned he absolutely must be handcuffed with David Wilson.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Own -
The dynamic duo of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz should once again light up score boards in 2012. The Giants have a dynamic, explosive offense and there is no reason we should expect anything less this season. I see both wide outs as number one fantasy football wide receivers but would rank Nicks above Cruz. We have all seen the highlight reels and we all know Victor Cruz can dance. If we watch the tape a it closer we might find that Cruz is a little lucky. His value is based on the big play. I for one would always prefer a steady performing, prototypical wide receiver like Nicks over a home run hitter like Cruz. I am not saying Cruz lacks talent nor am I saying you should pass him up, but if you had to pick one my money is on Hakeem Nicks. If one of these fantasy football studs goes down race to pick up the rookie Rueben Randle. The young wide receiver is built like Nicks but with more speed. If Randle is still open late in your fantasy football draft feel free to take a flyer. You want a piece of this passing attack one way or another.

Fantasy Football Tight ends to Own -
Martellus Bennett is finally out of Jason Witten’s shadow in Dallas and finds himself the lone tight end worth mentioning on the Giant’s Roster. All other tight ends should be deemed useless from a fantasy football stand point. He has size and speed and we all know Eli likes to look for the tight end in the red zone. I would not draft Bennett to be your starter in week one but as a back up with upside you certainly could do worse. If you wait on your tight end in this season’s fantasy draft keep Bennett on your radar. His draft day price tag will be nice and low, if he is drafted at all.

Fantasy Football Defense / Special Teams -
This defense has the talent to perform at a higher level that is did in 2011. The front line suffered numerous injuries and the secondary was often torched. Were it not for a potent offensive attack their second super bowl run may have never happened. I feel they have the talent to turn it around this season but keep them on the waiver wire until they prove they can put it together as a unit. For IDP purposes there is a lot of fantasy value; Jason Pierre-Paul is a stud at Defensive end and is projected by many as the top player at his position in 2012. If you are looking for a cheap source of tackles look no further than Michael Boley who racked up a career high 93 tackles in 2011. Even the aging Antrel Rolle proved valuable with 96 tackles. You could do better at both positions but you certainly could do worse.

Fantasy Football Kicker to Own -
Lawrence Tynes is a good kicker, just not a good fantasy kicker. When given the opportunity he certainly shines but that is the down fall, he simply does not get enough chances. He is attached to a high octane offense so he should remain on the radar, but there is no need to draft him. Keep him on the waiver wire until he starts getting more chances. With your final selection of your fantasy draft, you can do much better
