Now that we are approaching week four of the NFL season the picture seems to be getting a lot clearer. Jamaal Charles appears to be back, Chris Johnson appears to be done and Aaron Rodgers is mired in some sort of funk. The Seahawks defense looks pretty serious and don’t look now but The Redskins just signed Ryan Grant, plan accordingly!
Cleveland vs. Baltimore
If you own Trent Richardson
, you are starting him regardless of match up. This Baltimore defense is still a strong fantasy play but they have no looked as menacing as in years past. I don’t trust any of the Brown’s receiving options but definitely think you need to start Torrey Smith
in all formats. Torrey finally broke out last week and looks to continue his success in week 4 against and overmatched Browns team.
New England vs. Buffalo
A lot of questions about the Buffalo running backs coming into week 4 and it looks to be a game time decision for Fred Jackson
. If I am starting any of the Buffalo running backs it would have to be Tashard Choice
who had a nice game in relief of CJ Spiller
last week. Tom Brady
should get things going against this underrated bill’s secondary; he is due for a breakout game. Those of you relying on Stevan Ridley
should proceed with caution. I do think he will carry the load but based on last week, you are walking on thin ice until further notice.
San Diego vs. Kansas City
The Chargers defense has thus far bottled up Darren Mcfadden
, and the mighty Chris Johnson
but I do not expect similar results for Jamaal Charles
. Charles should get a full work load with Peyton Hillis
on the mend and should expose the Chargers defense. I am not expecting the eye popping numbers from last week’s performance but 90 yards on the ground and 40 through the air should be in order. Ryan Mathews
had a decent game last week and should continue on that success if he can avoid any more injuries. This is tackle football Ryan, you have to be careful out there.
Minnesota vs. Detroit
Good to see Calvin Johnson
get on track last week, he should continue that trend in week 4 regardless of the signal caller. Mikel Leshoure
may take a small step back in this one; the Vikings front seven is stronger than you think. Regardless he should get the start in all formats. Adrian Peterson
is due for a big game and this just might be it and look for Jerome Simpson
to start stealing some of Percy Harvin’s looks as soon as this Sunday. If Jerome Simpson is still on your waiver wire add him while you still have the chance.
Seattle vs. St. Louis
Get all Rams out of your lineup; this Seattle Defense
is for real! They shut down Aaron Rodgers and the high octane Packers on Monday night and should man-handle this sad St. Louis offense in week 4. I get the feeling Beast mode Marshawn Lynch
is going to go off in this one.
San Francisco vs. NY Jets
Only the most desperate owners should start any of the Jets running backs in this one. Joe Mcknight
has been moved to corner back and Shonne Green
looks terrible. If you had to start one it would have to be Bilal Powell
. If Powell gains 40 yards and even sniffs the end zone, I would be very surprised. Keep them all on your bench if possible. Frank Gore
should roll up his usual 50-80 yards and will most likely score making him a top 15 rusher in most formats and Michael Crabtree
could be a sneaky start with Darrel Revis out for the season.
Carolina vs. Atlanta
Say what you want about Michael Turner
but the guy has been reasonably effective from a fantasy football stand point. I do not expect “the burner” to ever return to form but 60 yards and touchdown is a lot better than many running backs are putting out at the moment. This Carolina defense poses no threat to the Atlanta running game and if they can get up big they should look to run out the clock and Keep Cam Newton off the field. Speaking of which, if you have any other reasonable option I am benching Cam Newton
in week 4. The Atlanta defense has been stifling to opposing quarterbacks and Cam has been a little careless with the football lately.
Tennessee vs. Houston
For those of you still holding out hope for Chris Johnson
forget about it! The Houston Defense is stout to say the least. If you are stuck and have to start Chris Johnson I would expect no more than 30 yards rushing and 20 receiving. Based on his track record that is pretty generous. Sneaky play for Houston might be Ben Tate
; if the Texans get up big he may see an increased workload to spell Arian Foster
. I am not starting Matt Schaub
despite his 4 touchdown performance last week. I think The Texans get back to the ground and pound in week 4.
Miami vs. Arizona
If Reggie Bush
is playing he is a must start from here on out. This Arizona Defense
has been surprisingly look and could be a decent start this week for those of you using the Pittsburgh defense
(bye week) I need to see Brian Hartline do it again before I can recommend starting him regularly but if you are desperate he should be ok in this one. Beanie Wells
hitting the IR is the best thing that could have every happened for fantasy football purposes. Ryan Williams
will get the bulk of the carries but don’t expect a high yard per carry average; the Dolphins defense
is somewhat stingy when it comes to running backs.
Cincinnati vs. Jacksonville
Tasty match up for Benjarvis Green-Ellis
in this one, expect a nice bounce back from his lack luster week 3 performance. AJ Green
is going to once again have a big game and should score as well. Feel free to consider all reasonable Bengals in this one, that Jacksonville defense is porous at best. Still only starting one Jaguar on offense and that is Maurice Jones Drew.
Oakland vs. Denver –
Another week another shoot out! Oakland and Pittsburgh found themselves in a nice little shoot out last week and I see no reason it won’t happen again this week. Start all skill positions in this one but be sure to double check Willis McGahee’s
status prior to kickoff. I might temper expectations for Darren Mcfadden
in the ground game but he will still get his points one way or another.
New Orleans vs. Green Bay
This should be the game Aaron Rodgers
gets his mojo back and I fully expect Jordy Nelson
to score his first touchdown of the year. Cedric Benson
should be better than average for a change as this New Orleans defense
can’t seem to stop anyone. All saints are a go as they try to keep up. This is a good game for both teams as they try to right the ship.
Washington vs. Tampa Bay
I am expecting one more good game out of Alfred Morris
before I sell high! Call me crazy, but I just flat out do not trust Mike Shanahan. Do not overlook the recent signing of Ryan Grant. Vincent Jackson
ha s a nice match up here and should easily go over the century mark. I would not dream of starting either the Tampa bay defense
or the Washington defense
; this should be a high scoring affair.
NY Giants vs. Philadelphia
I think I speak for all fantasy football players when I say give the rock to Lesean Mccoy
! Michael Vick
will probably get roughed up in this one but if Andy Reid is smart (and he is) he will try his best to keep this high powered Giants offense off the field though ground control. Brent Celek
may well end up being the week’s top scoring tight end if Vick can deliver the ball properly. If you own any of the Giants starters you have to play them but temper expectations for Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz
. They will score but may not put up the monster games we have come to expect.
Chicago vs. Dallas
Hopefully these two teams can provide a better match up than last week’s Monday night stinker. The Chicago corners are tough but I think Tony Romo
can pull through if his offensive line can keep him up right. Speaking of which, the bear defense might not be a terrible play in sack heavy leagues, they lead the league in sacks thus far. I get a feeling we might see a breakout game from Alshon Jeffrey
here as Brandon Marshall
draws top coverage. Risky start but his stock could well be on the rise after this prime time match up.
